Historical Lineage



It is said that Orlando, before being called by its present name was known as Jernigan. This name is reported to have originated from a settler named Aaron Jernigan who dealt in cattle and livestock and settled down near Lake Holden.
The city was meagerly occupied by the Native American and the Creek tribes prior to the European dwellers that came in 1836.


Presently most of the historical realm or what is known as “Old Orlando” occupies the downtown area of the city. The areas here include the Orange Avenue, Church Street and parts of Garland Avenue. The districts carrying the ancient past are located in and around the Lake Eola, that is characterized by the old brick streets. These clusters are popularly termed as “Thornton Park” and “Lake Eola Heights” comprises some of the homes that reflect the patterns and designs of the yester years.

The city of Orlando records a warm and humid subtropical climate with two prominent seasons in the yearly cycle. One is rainy and warm from June till late September and the other happens to be from October to May when the heat is moderate, accompanied by frequent downpours.
